Student Loan Interest Statement

Form 1098-E is a statement for tax purposes regarding student loan interest payments. Anyone receiving $600 or more in interest on one or more qualified student loans must provide this statement to the borrower. The form includes the lender's name, contact information, borrower's name and TIN, account number, and interest received during the year. For loans made before September 1, 2004, loan origination fees and capitalized interest are not included in box 1 and may be deductible. Borrowers should refer to Pub. 970 for instructions on figuring any deductible loan origination fees or capitalized interest.
