The memorandum concerns a tax refund pursuant to a settlement or government concession. The Department of Justice has authorized a refund or credit due to a case instituted by a taxpayer seeking recovery of certain tax liabilities. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recommends payment of the tax, interest, or penalties shown on the recomputation as refundable under settlement terms. Overpayments may be credited against other tax liabilities. Enclose the transcript of account and recomputation with the notice of adjustment, addressed to the Assistant Attorney General, Tax Division, Department of Justice.
