The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration outlines regulations for CDL holders and applicants regarding medical certificates and self-certification categories. All CDL holders and applicants must certify how they operate a commercial motor vehicle when obtaining, renewing, transferring, or upgrading their license. Those certifying a non-excepted type must submit their medical certificate to The Office of Driver Services and any subsequently issued medical certificates with valid variances if applicable. CDL holders cannot claim exemption from medical certification requirements unless they specifically fall under type 2 or 4 self-certification categories. There are four self-certification categories: non-excepted interstate, excepted interstate, non-excepted intrastate, and excepted intrastate.
