Notice of Sale

This form, Form 5049 (Revised 12-2018), is a notice of sale or transfer of motor vehicles, trailers, or all-terrain vehicles in Missouri. Sellers are required to submit this notice within 30 days of the sale and complete its sections, including signing and obtaining the purchaser's signature. The form must be mailed to the provided address, and sellers should keep a copy for their records. Motor vehicle dealers must also submit this form with their Dealer's Monthly Sales Report (Form 3050) if they don't report sales online. Certain types of sales aren't required to be reported, such as marinecraft, manufactured homes, salvage titles, junking certificates, sales to licensed dealers, out-of-state purchasers, insurance companies due to theft or casualty loss, beneficiaries named in a trust, and transfer on death beneficiaries. The seller remains the last titled owner until the purchaser titles the vehicle in their name. This form can be used as a bill of sale for a newly purchased vehicle to obtain a 180-day sales tax credit. The date of sale and purchase or contract to purchase must be within 180 days, and the purchaser must apply for a new title within 30 days.
