Damage/Salvage Disclosure Statement

North Dakota Department of Transportation requires sellers of vehicles less than nine model years old to complete a Damage/Salvage Disclosure Statement. The form includes sections for the transferor (seller) and transferee (buyer). Section 1 asks if the vehicle has sustained damage within the past eight years, and if so, sections 2 & 3 must be completed. Damage is defined as body or structural damage from vehicular crashes or accidents, including loss by fire, vandalism, weather, or submersion in water. Sections 2 & 3 require sellers to disclose if damages exceed certain thresholds of the vehicle's retail value. Vehicles with damages over 75% of their retail value may not be operated on ND highways unless reconstructed and inspected by a registered business. Vehicle information required includes year, make, model, style, VIN, title number, and answers to damage disclosure questions Sellers must disclose if damages equal or exceed $10,000 or 25% of retail value, and if damages exceed 75% of retail value, they must provide additional information on ownership and type of damage.
