Transfer Upon Death Notice Application

The document outlines the procedure for transferring ownership of a motor vehicle in Oklahoma through a Transfer on Death (TOD) notice. This process allows for the title of a vehicle not subject to liens or encumbrances to be transferred to a designated transferee upon the death of the current record owner. The TOD notice can be filed with Service Oklahoma by the transferor at any time, or submitted by the transferee following the transferor's death. The form must be properly completed and all required information provided. Acceptance of the TOD notice is contingent on current ownership being in the name of an individual or individuals and for the vehicle to be a motor vehicle. The TOD designation can be revoked or changed by the transferor prior to their death. If the transferor dies, and there are multiple owners, all must be deceased before the transfer of ownership to the TOD transferee can be completed. A filed TOD will remain in effect until the resulting transfer of ownership is completed, unless cancelled by certain events such as transfer of ownership by the transferor, court order, sheriff's sale or possessory lien action, repossession title, subsequent filing of a new TOD, presence of an active lien on the vehicle record at time of transferee application to transfer title following death of the transferor, or cancellation of the Oklahoma title resulting from notice of subsequent titling of the vehicle in another state. Completed notices may be mailed to Service Oklahoma for title application or revocation of ownership interest in the vehicle.
