Owner Retained Report

An insurance company paid a claim for a salvage or nonrepairable vehicle that was retained by the owner. The report must be filed within 30 days if the insurance company does not acquire ownership of the vehicle. The insurance company is required to provide notice to the vehicle owner and advise them of conditions regarding operation or transfer of ownership. The definition of a salvage motor vehicle includes a vehicle with damage exceeding its actual cash value, or one that comes into Texas under an out-of-state salvage title. A nonrepairable motor vehicle is damaged beyond repair or has a title indicating it's for parts or scrap metal only. The owner is required to apply for the appropriate salvage or nonrepairable title prior to selling or transferring ownership. The registration to the vehicle is no longer valid, and it may not be operated on public roads unless it has been repaired/rebuilt and retitled as a rebuilt salvage motorvehicle. The owner of a salvage vehicle will pay a $65 Rebuilt Fee, title application fee, and any applicable registration fees. If the vehicle is nonrepairable, it may only be used as a source for used parts or scrap metal, may not be repaired or rebuilt, and may only be issued a Nonrepairable Vehicle Title.
