To verify the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or Hull Identification Number (HIN).
[VT-010 form] This document is used for motor vehicle, boat, snowmobile, or ATV verification of ownership and identification number (VIN/HIN) in the state of Vermont. The applicant provides their current owner's last name, mailing address, email address, daytime and evening phone numbers, make, model, year, body/hull type (boats), vessel length (feet inches), registration number, title number, salvage status, and meter reading. Authorized personnel complete the form by certifying they have examined the vehicle and confirming the VIN/HIN is authentic and not listed as stolen through National Crime Information Center (NCIC). Verification is required for vehicles with salvage documentation, those registered in foreign countries, or older than 15 years for exemption. Vermont law enforcement officers, employees under their supervision, or DMV employees are responsible for VIN verifications within the state. Out-of-state verifications are completed by motor vehicle officials, state-level law enforcement, or military personnel and require a letter of identification.
