Farm Vehicle Plate Certification

Owners of qualifying farm vehicles use this form to certify compliance with Code of Virginia requirements for use of farm plates.

Virginia Code § 46.2-698 permits reduced fee for farm vehicle plates with gross weights of 7500 lbs or more, exclusively for farm use, not for hire. Farm plates can be used on vehicles transporting agricultural products, materials, tools, forest products, and other farm supplies. Non-farm use is limited to personal use for attending church, school, securing medical treatment, or household necessities. Operating a farm vehicle for unauthorized purposes is a Class 2 misdemeanor (Virginia Code § 46.2-698). A farm is defined as areas used for producing agricultural products, but not tree farms unless part of another farm. Agricultural products include nursery plants, Christmas trees, cultivated plants and crops, aquaculture, dairy, livestock, poultry, bee products, or other farm products. Farmers use this form to certify compliance with Code of Virginia requirements for using farm plates.
